Celebrating Bday's with the Savage Life and Zedd at Encore Beach Club

Edible Skinny was lucky enough to spend our Sunday at Encore Beach Club rocking it out to DJ Zedd and celebrating the birthday of one of our favorite entrepreneurs of the Las Vegas based Savage Life.

Featuring a three-tiered pool complex that is lushly landscaped with pagoda showers, ‘lily pad’ water lounges, cabanas, and eight ultraluxe two-story bungalows, Encore Beach Club was named Las Vegas Dayclub of the Year by Nightclub & Bar’s Top 100.

Besides frolicking poolside, we lived savagely grabbing some much needed shade in one of Encore Beach Club's twenty-six cabanas!  Our oasis from the sun featured bottles of Grey Goose vodka and pineapple based margaritas, a view of the Las Vegas strip from a private balcony, and a flat screen television.  Not that we even considered turning the latter on, choosing instead to dance our hearts out as resident DJ Zedd played fantastico tunes.

The Russian born DJ did not disappoint playing for almost three hours straight!   The Grammy winning Zedd made sure to drop his top hits such as Clarity (for which he earned his award for best Dance Recording) and Break Free.

So hear's to life being delicious and always full of savage clarity.

The Battle for Water in Paso Robles

Wine-Searcher.com has a great article on a battle that's happening in the not-so-sleepy-now-wine-town of Paso Robles.

As reported by Wine-Search this week San Luis Obispo County officials issued Justin Vineyards, a stop-work-order for missing trees on their property due to grading violations.   This cease and desist is primarily due to water issues in Paso.

The winery filed plans with the county to build a 6.5 million gallon irrigation pond that would draw from the groundwater from neighboring properties.   The article quotes neighboring Paso winemaker Justin Smith of Saxum, "when you build a reservoir you're stockpiling it.  Half it's going to evaporate.  So you've got to pull out twice as much as you need for your vineyard.  It's something nobody does around here."

Justin Vineyards is owned by Stewart and Lynda Resnick, who's net worth was estimated by Forbes last year at $4.3 billion.  Along with Justin Vineyards the Resnicks as the owners of Pom Wonderful and are the largest growers of almonds, pistachios, and pomegranates in the US.  The Resnicks are also owners of Fiji Water.

Having Your Shake and Eating It Too w/ Las Vegas Based Greens and Proteins

Edible Skinny was recently cleansing in Las Vegas, a mental misnomer if we’ve ever heard one, when we came across the delightfully healthy Greens and Proteins, a “healthy fast food” spot where UFC powerhouses and yogis can dine of craveable feel good food.

With the one-two combo of healthy and flexibility, Greens and Proteins is a modern, family friendly café offering all your favorite foods with a healthy twist.  Sandwiches/Wraps, Pizzas, Burgers, Vegan, Raw and Vegetarian-Friendly meals, Smoothies/Juice Bar, and a full HCG diet menu (I had to look this one up, an HCG diet stands for Human Chorionic Gonadotropin.  It’s a calorie restricted diet that is paired with the HCG hormone, one that’s produced in the placenta of pregnant women).

Call it healthy hedonism, some of Greens and Protein’s most popular items are lighter takes on comfort foods.  After a hard core gym work out (conveniently located steps from their Eastern location) it’s great to celebrate with Spiced Tofu Fries that are crisped in heart-healthy grapeseed oil or a 305-calorie Margherita Pizza served on a thin crust dough or vegan lavash.  One of G and P’s newest options is their Ostrich Burger, made up of Grilled Ostrich, Alfalfa Sprouts, Low-Fat Cheese, and LTO (aka Lettuce, Tomato, and Onion).   And with a total of 354 calories this is a Fourth of July burger that has the distinction of being healthy, delicious, with just a tad on the exotic side.

G and P celebrates choice, along with its locked in flavor profile menu, the restaurant also offers “Build Your Own Custom Meal,” mixing and matching proteins, greens, grains and sauces.  This eases the challenge of menu navigation for special dieters, picky eaters or apprehensive first-timers.  And for those in need of technology with their Bison Burger the Greens and Proteins iPhone app is available for Download now at the Apple App Store.

So here’s to life being delicious and healthy hedonism in Las Vegas!

Father's Day in Style with Dewar’s 18 Year Old The Vintage

Father’s Day is only a few days away and we at Edible Skinny don’t know a better way to celebrate our ’Dear Old Dad’ Tony Thomas than with a tumbler loaded with a massive ice cube and some smooth creamy Scotch Whiskey.  At the moment Edible Skinny is delighting in the spicy world of Dewar’s 18 Year Old The Vintage, a premium offering from John Dewar’s and Sons, the most awarded blended Scotch in the world.

Blended from vintage old and rate Highland, Speyside, and Lowland Single Malts and Grain Whiskies it’s the perfect thank you gift for all those year’s your Pa attended those Father/Daughter Girl Scout Dances, regardless of his inclination to dance like Baloo the Bear.

The Vintage’s flavor profile is memories of heather, tobacco, and oak with a finish that’s full of Chai tea and Curry.  One sip and Dad will be transported to the ultimate poolside family party where the tunes are always popping and the barbecue grill is always primed for dead animals.

The Vintage is perfect neat, on the rocks, or with one of Edible Skinny’s favorite mixers by Powell & Mahoney (we are huge fans of their Lemon Sour and Ginger (that’s also delightfully spicy) blended together).

So if you’re looking to grab that last minute gift perhaps a bottle of Dewar’s 18 Year Old The Vintage is the ultimate way to go.  It’s a bottle that’s full scotchy scotch warmness that screams thank you, thank you for introducing us to the world of… well the world.

Here’s to life being delicious and Tony’s parties always including tunes that are always popping and a barbecue grill is always primed for dead animals!
